Intrinsic Laryngeal Muscles
Cricothyroid
Posterior Crico-arytenoid (PCA)
Superior Thyroarytenoid
Thyroarytenoid: Muscularis
Thyroarytenoid: Vocalis
Interarytenoids: Oblique and Transverse
Transverse Arytenoid Attachments
Origin: Lateral margin and posterior surface of one arytenoid.

Insertion: Lateral margin and posterior surface of the other arytenoid.
Transverse Arytenoid Action and Innervation

Contraction: the two arytenoid cartilages approximate each other. The net action is adduction of the vocal folds.

Innervation: Vagus (X) Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve.
Thyroarytenoid Muscularis Attachments
Origin: Angle of thyroid, posterior surface.

Insertion: Fovea oblonga and base of the arytenoids.
Thyroarytenoid Muscularis Action and Innervation
Contraction: Primarily serves as regulator of longitudinal tension, but also acts as a vocal fold adductor. Contraction loosens.
Thyroarytenoid Vocalis Origin and Insertion
Origin: Angle of thyroid; posterior surface.

Insertion: Latero-inferior aspect of the vocal process of the arytenoid.
Thyroarytenoid Action and Innervation
Action: Primarily serves as regulator of longitudinal tension, but also acts as a vocal fold adductor. Contraction loosens.
