Sclera

Tough white outer covering that surrounds the eyeball except at front of eye. Maintains shape of eyeball and serves as protective covering for the eye. "White of the eye". Thinnest to thickest front to back.

Iris

The colored portion of the eye is known as the iris.


Pupil

Located in center on iris. Controls the amount of light entering the eye and its diameter is regulated by relaxation and contraction of the iris.

Conjunctiva

Thin, transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye. Begins at the outer edge of the cornea, covering the visible part of the sclera and lining the inside of the eyelids.

Lacrimal gland

Located at the upper outer edge of each under the upper eyelid which produces tears

Continuous with the skin and cover the eyeball keeping the surface of the eyeball lubricated and protected from dust and debris through blinking motion.

Eyelashes

Located along edges of eyelids. Help further protect the eyeball by preventing foreign material and/or insects from coming in contact with surface of the eyeball.

Cornea

Transparent, non vascular layer covering the colored part of the eye, known as the iris.

Choroid

Vascular middle layer of the eye contains the choroid, a layer just beneath the sclera. Provide blood supply and nutrients to b the eye; iris, and ciliary body.

Lens

Acolorlews biconvex structure that aids in focusing the images clearly on the sensitive nerve cell layer called the retina
