What does the nervous system consist of?
Brain, Spinal cord and Nerves
What does the nervous system do?
Controls all body sytems and provides a method of communication in the body.
What is the brain responsible for?
Consciousness, sensations, voluntary acts, emotions, thoughts, reasoning and memory.
What are the three divisions of the brain?
Cerebrum (forebrain), midbrain and hindbrain.
What is the Cerebrum responsible for?
Consciousness, emotions, sensations or taste, smell and hunger.
What are the four lobes the Cerebrum is divided into?
Frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital.
What is the Cerebellum responsible for?
It is involved in producing nerve signals for co-ordination and movement. Balance and posture. Maintains muscle tone and co-ordinates muscles.
What does the Pons Variolii do?
It forms a bridge that transmits messages between the spinal cord , cerebellum and cerebrum.
What is the medulla oblongata do?
It connects the brain with spinal cord and is the centre for breathing and circulation.
What does the midbrain do?
The midbrain connects the cerebrum with pons variolii and medulla oblongata. Controls posture and involuntary muscle movements.
