-Trauma or degenerative disease
-Common cause of spondylolisthesis
Pars interarticularis
Located b/t inferior and superior articular facets, between the lamina and pedicles of vertebrae
-Fractures at this point associated with spondyloysis
-Looks like a Scottie Dog on radiograph
Spondylolisthesis
-Anterior/ventral displacement of one vertebra on adjacent
-Common progression from spondylolysis, can also be congenital
Osteopenia
thinning or decrease in bone mass
Osteoporisis
the condition of having diminished bone density making bones prone to fracture
Thoracolumar fascia made up of
Posterior lamina
Middle lamina
Anterior lamina
Vasculature vertebral column - venous drainage
Internal vertebral venous plexus
External vertebral venous plexus
Basivertebral veins
Intervertebral veins
Vasculature of the vertebral column - arterial supply: cervical region
vertebral & cervical arteries
Vasculature of the vertebral column - arterial supply - thorasic region
posterior intercostal arteries
Vasculature of the vertebral column - arterial supply - lumbar region
subcostal and lumbar arteries
Vasculature of the vertebral column - arterial supply - sacral region
iliolumbar arteries
medial and lateral sacral arteries
Herniation usually occurs in what direction and why?
Posterolateral direction partly because the posterior longitudinal ligament is not very broad (unlike anterior longitudinal ligament)
What ligamentous strctures make up the intervertebral joints
Annulus fibrosis
Anterior longitudinal ligament
Posterior longitudinal ligament
Thorasic Outlet Syndrome
An extra rib(s) in lower cervical region causing impingement of the large vessels and nerve (brachial plexus) in the region
-Other causes: fracture clavicle, poor posture
