It begins as the continuation of pharynx at the level CV6 or lower border of cricoid cartilage.
And it is end at the level of TV11 at the continuation of cardia of stomach.

State four constriction of esophagus?
1.At its origins at the level of CV6 or 6 inches from the incisor teeth.
2.Where its cross by the arch of aorta or at the level of TV4 or 9 incehs from the incisor teeth.
3.Where its crossed by left main bronchus at the level of TV5 or 11 inches from the incisor teeth.
4. Where its pierce the diaphragm at the level of TV 10 or 15-16 inches from the incisor teeth.

1.Anterior-posterior relation -follow the curvature of vertebrae
2. Lateral curvature- in the neck region it follows the medial plane, deviate to the next side of left inlet,and resume at the medial plane at sternal angle.pass through the mediasternum in the midline and deviate again to the left side near its termination and pass trhough the diphragm.
