How do we position the patient for a Flexion C-spine exam?
Same as Lateral C-spine but chin is all the way forward as close as possible to the chest to achieve hyperflexion of cervical vertebra

How about extension projection?
same as lateral c-spine but have patient elevate chin as much as possible to achieve hyperextension of cervical vertebrae
Why do we do a Fuchs projection?
do see the ordontoid process (dens) within the foremen magnum

what is positioning and CR for this?
supine pt, chin up so tip of chin and tip of mastoid process are vertical. CR perp @ MSP just below chin
What is the Ottonello Method-wagging jaw projection for and why is this not done very often in real life?
It is an ap cervical projection to see all 7 cervical vertebrae without the open mouth method but by blurring the mandible with patient doing a chewing motion with long exposure. not done often because most patients with a injured cervical spine are not up for this
how do we position patient for a Ottonello method (wagging jaw)
patient supine, elevate chin so incisors line up with mastoid tip in vertical plane. immobilize head and have pt open and close mouth but not so teeth hit, CR perp to C4
What is the Pillars projection for?
to demonstrate the posterior elements of cervical vertebrae
how do we position patient and CR for this?
supine, chin extended to hyperextend neck, CR directed toward C7 at 20 to 30 deg depending on lordosis of cervical spine
Twining and Pawlow methods are both methods of what projection?
The swimmers. what is this for and how do we position patient
This is for a lateral c-spine projection when shoulder superimposition obscures C7. Upright have pt in lateral, have pt put arm on side of bucky over the head, CR @ C7-T1 interspace at 3-5 deg cephalic
