What is the Autonomic nervous system?
"self-governing", conveys information from autonomic sensory receptors to interoceptors and monitor the internal environment - stretch and blood chemicals.
Influenced by an emotional state, regulates functions such as those of the heart. includes smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and many glands.
What are the two types of transmitters used by the autonomic nervous system?
1. Acetocoline (ACh)
2. Norepinephrin (NE)
They respond to the same chemical but depends on specilization of the effector organ - determined by receptor "type" on the organ ("same key, different lock" principle).
What is the autonomic motor pathway?
.
