Make tunnels in bone that are filed with concentric lamellae to form osteons. Temporary assemblies of osteoclasts and osteoblasts, renews entire skeleton every 10 years. Intersitial lamellae are not removed by BMUs.

Classified by position of bone ends after fracture, completeness of break, orientation of bone to long axis, and whether or not the bone ends penetrate the skin.
