What does superior mean?
That a body part is above another one
What does inferior mean?
That a body part is below another one.
What does anterior mean?
Towards the front.
What does posterior mean?
Towards the back
What does medial mean?
It refers to the imaginary midline that divides the body into equal right and left halves
What does lateral mean?
Towards the side, away from the imaginary midline.
What does bilateral mean?
Refers to paired structures. ex. Lungs.
What does ipsalateral mean?
Structures on the same side. Ex. Left lung and left kidney
What does contralateral mean?
Structures on opposite sides. Ex. Left lung and right kidney
What is proximal?
A body part that is closer to a point of attachment to the trunk than another body part. Ex. elbow is proximal to wrist.
What is distal?
A particular body part is farther from a point of attachment to the trunk than another body part is.
What is superficial?
Situated near the surface.
What does deep desrcibe?
Describes parts that are more internal than superficial parts.

The lengthwise plane that divides the body into right and left portions. Can be either median (midsagittal) or parasagittal

Plane that divides the body into superior and inferior portions.
