internal carotid, anterior cerebral, anterior communicating, posterior communicating, middle cerebral artery, opthalmic artery,

vertebral arteries, basalar artery, posterior cerebral, superior cereballar, labyrinthine, anterior inferior cerebellar artery, posterior inferior cerebellar artery
What is a cavernous sinus thrombosis, what causes it, and what can be affected?
popping zits around the nose and eye, drain to the cavernous sinus.
CN3, CN4, V1/V2, CN6 and the internal carotid can all be affected. |
all brain vessels - what meningial layer are they all found in?
the subarachnoid space.
what 3 kinds of hematomas are possible, and what are hematomas?
they're blood clots due to hemmorage.
they can be epidural subdural subarachnoid |
epidural hematoma - what artery is injured? of what artery is that a branch? what is a typical scan sign?
what landmark on the skull does this usually happen near? |
epidural hematoma = MIDDLE MENINGEAL artery, a branch of the EXTERNAL CAROTID (specifically, a branch off the maxillary A).
it runs between the calvaria and the dura matter. see a 'lense shape' CT scan of the brain being squished to the opposite side of the injury. happens near pterion! |
Subdural Hematoma - what vessel(s) are torn? Where does the blood go?
Tearing of bridging veins between the dura and arachnoid, invents a space between them. Bridging vessels torn.
not teathered - can spread all around the skull. |
subarachnoid hematoma - what causes it? what's a symptom?
Usually an aneurism in the circle of willis. Bad headaches are a symptom.
What is the main cause of subarachnoid hematoma?
80% = trauma, 15% = circle of willis aneurism
