ANEURYSM
blood filled sac-like dilation of the wall of an artery
ATHEROSCLEROSIS
the hardening of artery walls characterized by lipid deposits in the tunica intima
TUNICA INTIMA
The tunica intima is the inner layer of arteries and veins. In arteries this layer is composed of an elastic membrane lining and smooth endothelium that is covered by elastic tissues
CHORDAE TENDINEAE
chord-like structures that anchor the 3 flaps of the endocardium to the papillary muscles of the right ventricle
CORONARY SINUS
common venous channel through which blood from the coronary veins drain into the right atrium
ENDOCARDIUM
the delicate layer of endothelial tissue that lines the interior of the myocardial wall
FORAMEN OVALE
opening in the septum between the right and left atria
MITRAL STENOSIS
condition in which the mitral valve narrows. This narrowing causes the valve to not open properly and to obstruct blood flow between the left chambers of your heart.
MYOCARDIUM
Myocardium is the muscular middle layer of the wall of the heart. It is composed of spontaneously contracting cardiac muscle fibers which allow the heart to contract.
Function:

Stimulates heart contractions to pump blood from the ventricles and relaxes the heart to allow the artria to receive blood.
PHLEBITIS
inflammation of a vein (milk leg - phlebitis of the femoral vein of women after childbirth)
PURKINJE FIBERS
One of the specialized cardiac muscle fibers, part of the impulse-conducting network of the heart, that rapidly transmit impulses from the atrioventricular node to the ventricles
