Process

A projection or outgrowth of tissue from a larger body.

Crest

A ridge or raised surface on the skeleton.

Condyle

The round prominence at the end of a bone; usually part of a joint with another bone.

Epicondyle

Protuberance of the condyle to which ligaments and tendons are attached.

Tubercle

A small, rounded projection or protuberance, especially on a bone or surface on an animal.

Tuberosity

A large, prominence on a bone usually serving for the attachment of muscles or ligaments.

Trochanter

Either of two knobs at the top of the femur, greater on the outside and lesser on the inside. This is where muscles attach between pelvis and thigh.

Facet

A joint where two or more bones are joined; joints allow motion.

Fissure

A groove, natural division, deep furrow, elongated clef, or tear in various parts of the body (sulcus).

Foramen

An opening, hole or passage, especially in a bone.

Passage or opening leading to interior of body; for example, the ear.

Sinus

A cavity within bone or other tissue, especially in bones of the face or skull connecting with the nasal cavities.

Sulcus

A groove or furrow, particularly one on surface of brain.

Suture

A fibrous joint that only occurs in the skull.
