Flexion

A bending movement that results in a decrease in the angle of a joint

Ex. Elbow bending from straight to bent position

Extension

A movement that increases an angle of a joint

Ex. Joint goes from bent position to a straight position

Abduction

Lateral movement away from the midline of the body in the frontal plane
