Marquis De Lafayette

Wealthy French Nobleman




Served as Major General under George Washington. Advocated for the Americans to the French Government. Helped fund the Revolution.

Crispus Attucks

American Merchant, seaman, whaler and dock worker. Part Native American and part African.




One of the five colonists shot in the Boston Massacre. Also, he was believed to be the first African American killed in the Revolution.

James Armistead

Slave who served a spy (double agent) for the Patriots. he was later granted his freedom after the war and a pension from the Virginia Legislature.

Mercy Otis Warren

Author and a member of a family with a strong, pro-independence attitude. She wrote pro-American pamphlets during the war. After the war, she wrote a three-volume book about the Revolution.

Bernardo Galvez

Governor of Spanish Louisiana. Aided patriots by allowing them to send supplies up the Mississippi, and ordered attacks on British settlements. Galveston, TX, is named in his honor.
