Rumor
unified information from unknown origin spread by oral tradition, phone, fax, broadcasting, and computer. Tend to be negative, thrive in all societies, from gossip to legend. Anonymous.
Conspiracy
Can be published articles, rumors, or legends that circulate that state other groups have conspired in secret to take over the reigns of power or otherwise to subvert other political powers.

Tend to be subscribed largely by minorities.

Ostension
Another way of transmitting legends. People act out the stories they've heard.
True-Ostension
Acting out the legend to it's fullest. E.g. actually placing the poodle in the microwave or committing the murders as a "hook man"
Pseudo-Ostension
Dressing up like the character in a legend to "scare" someone but not actually fully performing the legend.
Quasi-Ostension
Interpreting something that happened in a story as a legend, e.g. the mutilated cows happened because of satanist.
Legend Tripping
A form of pseudo-ostension; tends to be teen ritual; a group visits a specific site that has a legend attached to it.
