Amalgam Post-Op Card 1
Do not chew any hard foods for 24 hours. The amalgam continues to harden over this period of time.

Wait to chew anything until the anesthetic wears off. If the patient chews before the numbess from the anesthetic is gone, they may bite their cheek and tongue, creating sore and soft tissue.

If the amalgam is a 2-surfaces restoration with a contact to another tooth, the patient should not floss that area for atleast 24 hours.

If the restoration feels like it's too high or the bite feels off, the patient should call the office right away and schedule a check up and adjustment of the bite or occlusion.
