Positive & Negative Effects |
Natural changes and human impact can have positive and negative effects on the health of a watershed (turbidity, nutrients, sunlight, air quality, and oxygen availability). |
|
Human Impacts |
Changes in habitat size, quality, and structure result from human activities: development, logging, pollution, and introduction of foreign species. |
|
Eutrophication |
Algal blooms create too much algae on the surface of the water. This blocks sunlight from reaching the S.A.V.'s (underwater plants) and reduces the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. Plants and animals die from lack of food and oxygen. Too many nutrients and sediments create the excess algae. |

Point Source Pollution |
Can be traced back to a single source. Examples include: Waste Water Treatment Plants Factories |
|
Non-Point Source Pollution |
Cannot be traced back to a single source. Examples include: Urban Runoff Construction Sites |
