Watershed

The land that drains into a body of water (what water runs over to get to a lake, river, stream, or ocean)

Runoff

Collection of precipitation that gathers and runs into rivers, lakes, and streams. Runoff goes directly into storm drains and is not filtered before mixing with other freshwater and sources.

Divide

Mountains that separate watersheds.

Tributary

Smaller streams that join rivers.

River System

A bunch of rivers that come together and make up a river system which eventually make up a watershed.

Flood Plain

Wide, flat border areas that can be covered with water during flooding. Watersheds can be found in freshwater biome. Human impacts can endanger the health of the freshwater system.

Chesapeake Bay

The Chesepeake Bay is the largest estuary in the US. It consists of 7 different states:
