What is the procedure for Pre-Alignment Inspection?
- Interview the customer

- Visual Inspection

- Road Test
During road test, the rout you choose should have:
- a section that is straight and flat
- a spot where you can safely stop and start
- several dips or bumps
- an area requiring several right and left turns
- a large open area like parking lot
bump steer = orbital steer = roll steer

What are the causes?
- misaligned steering rack

- worn or misadjusted idler arm

- bent steering components
What causes Memory Steer?
binding in either the steering linkage or ball joints and causes the vehicle to pull
What should tires be checked for?
- Size and brand
- Inflation (pressure)
- Wear
- Damage (abrasions or cuts on sidewalls)
- Separation (distortion, bulging or separation of tread)
- Construction (never mix radial and bias)
No lateral movement is permitted in any of the steering linkage components.

What are the steering linkage components?
- Tie Rods (30 degrees rotation)

- Pitman Arm / Idler Arm

- Centre Link (Relay Rod)
Before pre-alignment inspection is complete, what should you check under the hood?
- p/s fluid level
- p/s belt for condition and tension
- p/s hoses and fittings for leaks, seepage and abrassions
- inspect the steering shaft
- inspect the steering coupler for play and wear
3mm = 0.125 inch = 1/8 inch = 1/4 degree = 15'
