Ordered pairs

(12,28) or (x,y)
a pair of coordinates, written in the form of (x,y), used to locate any point on a coordinate plane.

Cartesian coordinate plane

a plane divided into 4 quadrants by the intersection of the xaxis and the yaxis at the origin.

relation

a set of ordered pairs.
(12,28) (13,3)

domain

(xcoordinates)
the set of all xcoordinates of the ordered pairs of relation.

Range

(ycoordinates)

linear eqaution

An eqaution that has no operations other than addition, subtraction, and multiplication of a variable by a constant.

linear function

5x3x=7 x=9 6s=3t15 y=1/2x
a function whose ordered pairs satisfy a linear equation.

standard form

Ax+By=C
a linear equation written in the form Ax+By=C, Where A,B,and C r integers whose greatest common factor is 1,A≥0, and A and B r not both zero. A,B,and C r integers, and a≠0.

rate of change

how much a quantity changes on averages, relative to the change in another quantity, often time.

slope

Y2Y1/X2X1
the ratio of the change in ycoordinates into the change in xcoordinates.

Slopeintercept form

y=mx+b
m is the slope and b is the yintercept.

pointslope form

YY1=m(xx1)
an eqaution in the form (yy1)=m(xx1) where (x1,y1) r the corrdinates of a point on the line and m is the slope of the line.

Bivariate data

Data with two variables, such as speed and Calories

Scatter plot

a set of data graphed as ordered pairs in a coordinate palne.

line of fit

A line that closely approximates a set of data.

prediction equation

a line of fit, because it can be used to predict one of the variables given the order variable.

Linear correlation coefficient

r=
A value that shows how close a data points are to a line.

step function

A function whose graph is a series of a line segments.

greatest interger function

A step function, written as
f(x)=[x], where f(x) is the greatest integer less than or = to x

Constant function

a linear function of the form
f(x)=b

absolute value function

f(x)=[x]

identity function

f(x)=x

piecewise function

x if x<0 and x if x≥0
A function that is written using 2 or more experssions.

Boundary

a line or curve that separates the coordinate plane into two region.
