Windshear Recognition
15 kts IAS
500 fpm vertical speed
5 deg pitch attitude
1 dot displacement from glide slope
Unusual thrust lever position
Windshear Wx Cues
T storm cell or virga
Virga with surface temp >80F with dewpoint of 40F or less
Windshear warnings
Pireps
Variable or gusting winds, even light winds
Blowing dust or swaying treetops near airport
LLWAS warnings
(NG) Predictive Windshear (PWS) radar alerting or warnings
Warm front approaching the airport
Cold front immediately after it passes the airport
Windshear Takeoff precautions
Use Max rated takeoff thrust (no derate allowed)
Use F/D for takeoff and initial climb
Use longest suitable runway
Use flap setting of 5 thru 15
Consider increasing Vr up to Vr + 20 or Takeoff Limit Weight Vr, whichever is less
(calls,"V1"," Vr", "V2"," Rotate")
Windshear Recovery -- Takeoff
Prior to V1, reject the takeoff
After V1, perform Windshear Escape Maneuver.
Windshear Flight Director commands....
V2 + 20
+600 fpm
15 deg nose-up pitch attitude
intermittent stick shaker
programming is reversed as the aircraft transits the windshear condition
Windshear Approach Precautions
Use Flaps 30
stabilized approach NLT 1000 ft AGL
use most suitable runway that avoids windshear areas
add appropriate airspeed correction
avoid large thrust reductions or trim changes in response to sudden airspeed increases as these may be followed by large a/s decrease
crosscheck f/d commands vs. vertical flight path instruments
closely monitor glide slope displacement, altimeters, vertical speed
(NG) Windshear Caution
"MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY"

Maneuver as reqd to avoid the windshear
(NG) Windshear Warnings
(NG) Takeoff Roll
"Windshear ahead, Windshear ahead"
Prior to V1, reject takeoff
After V1, perform W. E. M.

(NG) Predictive windshear during approach:

("Go-Around, Windshear Ahead" aural)

Perform W E M or at pilots discretion, perform a normal go-around
Windshear Warning
during any phase of flight:
("Windshear" aural)

Perform W E M
Windshear Escape Maneuver
PF: Autopilot/Autothrottle - Disengage
TO/GA - Press
Thrust/Pitch - Max Power, Rotate
Simultaneously roll wings level and rotate to an initial pitch attitude of 15 deg
Speed Brake - Down Detent

PNF:

Ensure max thrust selected
Verify all reqd actions have been accomplished and call out any omissions

PF:

Do NOT change flap or gear configuration until windshear is no longer a factor
Monitor vertical speed and altitude
Do not attempt to regain lost airspeed until windshear is no longer a factor

PNF:
monitor vertical speed and radio altitude
call out radio altitude and rate of climb/descent
