Bald Eagle

Class: Aves. Female (11-12 lbs) is larger than male (9-10 lbs). Juveniles have mottled white/brown feathers on head, nape, throat, and tail. Eyes and beak change from yellow to brown with maturity.

Mainly fish. Will eat carrion or mammals or birds if fish is scarce.

What do bald eagles eat in the zoo?

Salmon, trout, herring, mackerel, smelt, and occasionally rat or deer meat.

Habitat must have suitable roosting sites and lake or river. Very territorial during breeding season, however become more tolerant during winter months. Groups of up to 3500 have been found in Alaska.
