ecology
scientific study of how organisms interact with their environment and all the other organisms that live in the environment.
ecosystem
describe a particular environment and all the living things that are supported by it.
biotic factor
living parts of an ecosystem. it interacts with ecosystem, such as Plants and Animals
abiotic factor
nonliving parts of an ecosystem. it affect ecosystem. such as air, soil, water, temperature and light.
cycle
a series of events that happens over and over again.
water cycle
the movement of water through the environment. 3 forms: vapor (gas), liquid, ice (solid)
carbon cycle
carbon moves through Earth's ecosystem in a cycle through CO2 (carbon dioxide)
name three ways that living things are part of the carbon cycle
(1)plants use CO2 to product sugar (photosynthesis). (2)organisms break down the carbon compounds to release energy in food (3) when living htings die and decay, they release carbon.
nitrogen cycle
nitrogen cycles through earth. even though 80% of air are nitrogen, all animals must get nitrogen from plants.
how nitrogen moves through environment
(1)lightning strikes break apart (fix) pure nitrogen into a form that plants can use. it falls with rains.(2) nitrogen-fixing bacteria lives in soil and ocean, die and break down. the nitrogen then is used by living things.
temperature and water cycle
changes in temperature help water move through the environment. via freezing and evaporating
