How does an incomplete combustion form? |
An incomplete combustion forms when there isn’t enough oxygen so some of the drip doesn’t burn |
What happens when an incomplete combustion happen? |
When an incomplete combustion happens, particulates are released and carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide is also produced |
What are particulates and what problems do they create for health and the environment? |
Particulates are soot (carbon) and they can cause respiratory problems and they can reflect sunlight back into space so less light reaches the earth and causes global dimming |
How does an incomplete combustion form? |
An incomplete combustion forms when there isn’t enough oxygen so some of the fuel doesn’t burn |
What can carbon monoxide do to your health? |
When carbon monoxide is breathed in, it can stop blood from carrying oxygen around you body which can cause fainting or even death. |
How is sulfur dioxide produced? |
Sulfur dioxide is produced from combustion of fossil fuels which the sulfur becomes oxidised |
How are nitrogen oxides produced? |
Nitrogen oxides are produced from the reaction of nitrogen and oxygen in the air from the heat during combustion |
How can sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides be harmful to the environment? |
When these gases mix with the clouds, they form dilute nitric acid which falls as acid rain. Acid rain kills plants and damages buildings and statues and makes metals corrode. |
How can sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides be harmful for your health? |
When they are breathed in, they can cause respiratory problems such as asthma |
How can water vapour be harmful to the environment? |
Water vapour is not harmful to the environment as it is cycled through the atmosphere quickly and comes back down as rain or snow |
