Sentronic oil control: Check for voltage between terminals __ and ___ |
L and M |
|
What is a turba-shred? |
A type of Emerson oil separator, which collects oil droplets on the compressor discharge and returns the oil from its reservoir along a high pressure line to the oil pressure differential regulator valve .This valve reduces the oil pressure to between 20 and 25 psig above the crankcase pressure of the compressor, providing even flow of oil to the oil level regulators or floats. |
|
What should be added to a residential or commercial system after an acid burnout? |
Add flare burnout filter drier on both lines, also add injectable acid neutralizer |
|
Is it a good idea to add a filter drier to the suction line? |
No, this kills the compressor |

Bitzer compressors |
Brandon Houston There is no pump, so no screen. Its a slinger so oil is slung around and collected in a cup on the end of the crank. It’s an optic safety that looks for oil in the cup. Have you pulled and cleaned the optic eye? It "sees" the oil by detecting the millivolt signal created by the oil itself. Sometimes the eye itself gets dirty and has issues with rectifying Brian Harju some do have a screen behind the drain plug, it fooled me once !! Never again!! |
|
Micro thermo SLA |
Safety line alarm. safety line alarm. Any time a safety is tripped, with MT, the system reads it as a generic SLA. Whether it’s low pressure, high pressure, oil, etc.... we have had a problem with the compressor module setting it off randomly. No safety’s are tripping. |
|
Isolating compressors: |
Always valve off the suction or the crankcase will get flooded with oil (as per mike Harding. |
|
Holdback valves |
Never overtighten the auto/manual switch - it's just a needle valve and it will leak. Never overtighten the bolts that bolt the actuator to the valve. (As per Mike Harding) |

Loss of charge on trane CGAM - bad suction thermistor or suction transducer |
bad suction thermistor or suction transducer The loss of charge diagnostic is generated when the ratio of EXV % Flow Command/Superheat Control Compressor Flow Estimate is 1.7 or greater. The ratio should be 1 to 1. Everyone I've come across was due too a bad suction line temperature sensor. The EXV % Flow Command/Superheat Control Compressor Flow Estimate can be trended when adding/subtracting charge. As the line come together the charge is good. Know this due to a contractor seeing this diagnostic and dumping 30 extra pounds of gas into the machine (had a bad temp sensor). |

On Carrier chillers if the model starts with 30 it has either a scroll, screw, or reciprocating compressor and the first letter determines the compressor type. Most of the time they have multiple compressors and are under 500 tons. If the model number starts with 19 like a 19XR it is a centrifugal. If the model number starts with 23 like a 23XR it is a water cooled screw machine with a single compressor. The third letter let's you know if the machine has a VFD. If the third letter after the first two numbers is a V than the compressors are on VFDs. |

An RTAC500 is an air cooled screw chiller. The third letter in the model of every Trane chiller refers to the type of condenser (RTAA is an air cooled screw chiller The A let's you know that an RTHC is a water cooled screw machine the H stands for hydrogen AKA water) the last later is the model in that series and the first two letters tell you the compressor type. RT stands for Rotary Trane AKA Trane's name for their screw compressors just like the CV in a CVHE stands for Centravac Trane's name for their centrifugal compressors. And yes just one of those compressors is almost 50k not including the labor to replace it. Those compressors weigh about 1600lbs. I work for Daikin and one of our 500 ton screw compressors weigh almost 2500lbs. |

|
How to check check valve for bleed by on a case? |
Close SDR or EPR and watch case suction temp. It should stay the same. If it keeps rising to liquid temp, its passing.
It will also frost on inlet of check valve if flowing backwards.
Floodback is also a symptom.

|
High temp alarm on a case, previously the night before. How to diagnose? |
Check the rack head pressure /condensing pressure graphs and logs at the time of the high temp alarm. If head pressure was low at the time, could be low on refrigerant. Check receiver. |
