What is ABN Option 1

Pt may pay at the time of service (for a test) as well as have Meducare billed for an official decision on payment. Pt will receive an (MSN) Medicare Summary Notice outlining payment & acknowledgement that if Medicare does not pay, the pt is responsible for payment. If Medicare does pay they can be refunded any payments made. The pt has a right to appeal to Medicare if their request us denied.

ABN Option 2

Pt states that the pt wants the test performed and does not want to bill Medicare. In this case the pt us taking full responsibility for payment and will pay in full at the time of service. The pt cannot appeal to Medicare if they choose this option.

ABN Option 3

States that the pt is refusing to have testing performed and therefore not taking financial responsibility and cannot appeal to Medicare

Medicare Part A

Provides medical coverage for hospitalizations, home health, hospice and nursing homes facilities.

Medicare Part B

Provides medical coverage for dr. appointments, certain outpatient care tx's, ambulance, home health and physical therapy treatments. May gave a monthly premium that could apply for coverage.

Medicare Part C

For individuals who meet the qualifications for coverage under Medicare A&B as well as Medicare part D. (Also covers prescriptions, vision, dental and hearing services). Similar to a PPO or HMO. Monthly premium) Example: BCBS Medicare Advantage
