SPOIL SYSTEM |
practice of handing out government jobs to supporters; replace govt. employees with winning candidates supporter. (Spoils are the benefits of victory in an election) |

In 1835 U.S. army forced removal of the Seminole tribe out of Florida - many troops killed in Dade Massacre but Seminoles finally captured and forced to move west (some escaped into Florida everglades)- battle cost $20 million dollars |

to reject a bill or prevent it from becoming a law- Jackson vetoed renewal of permit to run 2nd Bank of U.S.- people supported it and bank closed |

PANIC OF 1837 |
State banks issued huge amounts of loans and govt. stopped accepting the loans as payment for public lands- led to economic panic and led to a depression- businesses closed, workers lost jobs & land, people had no money for rent and food |

an organization that has an important purpose in society- such an institution was the 2nd Bank of U.S. who controlled the nation's money supply- Jackson thought it limited western growth and favored wealthy people |

a new party of former National Republicans and other anti-Jackson forces that tried to keep Van Buren from winning the majority vote- their plan backfired |
