Antichrist
Antichrist- the earthly leader of the Great Tribulation; Christ’s archenemy; referred to the “man of lawlessness” in 2 Thess. 2:3-9 and the Beast in Rev. 13; the Battle of Armageddon, the last conflict of the nations, which will be instigated by Antichrist, will culminate in the triumph of our Lord and the delivery of the Antichrist and his allies to the lake of fire; different than the spirit of antichrist
Apocryphal books
Apocryphal books- includes 15 books, all but one of which are Jewish in origin and found in the Septuagint; influenced by the Jewish canon of the OT, the custom arose of making the Apocrypha a separate section in the Protestant Bible, or sometimes even of omitting them entirely
Apostles
Apostles- primary group of apostles were the Twelve, which had a ministry in the initial establishing of the Church and will sit on twelve thrones during Millennium; name translates to “ambassadors, sent with a mission”; apostolic ministry had three distinct features: 1) commissioned by the risen Lord Jesus/first hand witnesses to the teachings and resurrection of Jesus 2) unique role of establishing the Church and producing Scripture 3) signs/wonders; function is similar to the task of the pioneer missionary today (church planting)
Attributes of God
Attributes of God- omnipotence (the quality of being all-powerful); omnipresent (present everywhere, not limited by space); omniscient (infinite, universal, complete knowledge and insight); goodness (looks out for welfare of creation); holy (separated from sin); righteous (can be depended on to act with justice)
Autographs
Autographs-original manuscripts- inerrant word received from the Holy Spirit; the first and original documents; “word of God infallibly inscripturated by supernatural inspiration” “the original handwritten manuscripts produced by the human authors of scripture. These were probably circulated and copied so many times that they wore out. None of them are now known to exist. However, copies from close to the time they were written do exist.”(AG definition in italics)
Bible versions
Bible versions- today the Church has several different modern versions of the Bible based on the many extant Hebrew and Greek manuscripts; these versions carefully compare the ancient manuscripts and early versions of the Bible; provide the reader with the Scriptures in an up-to-date vocabulary and style while retaining the accuracy of meaning; these versions have been translated into hundreds of languages
Calvinism
Calvinism- T: Total Depravity (humans can’t do anything to help themselves) U: Unconditional election (God has chosen certain people to be saved) L: Limited atonement (Christ only died for those who God chose to save) I: Irresistible grace P: Perseverance of the saints (once saved, always saved)
Canon of Scripture
Canon of Scripture- “rule, a standard, measuring rod”; a book that has met certain criteria: 1) Apostolicity 2) Universality 3) Contents 4) Inspiration; 66 books
Christology
Christology- doctrine that concerns Jesus Christ; the person of Christ (fully human/fully divine); Christ ministers to us before time and after it; salvation is based upon the work of Christ alone

Classification of spiritual gifts- estatic, teaching, wonderworking, administrative;
1) Teaching 2) Ministry 3) Worship
Deacon
Deacon- elected official in the early church; “a servant of various duties”; “an established group of workers elected by the local congregation”; serve as helpers to the elders; sometimes ministry is of a more secular nature, but were expected to measure up to a high set of spiritual and moral qualifications; Acts 6:1-6; Philippians 1:1; 1 Tim. 3:8-13; an office in the local church, both men and women served as deacons
Discipleship
Discipleship- Christian discipleship is the process by which disciples grow in the Lord Jesus Christ and are equipped by the Holy Spirit, who resides in our hearts, to overcome the pressures and trials of this present life and become more and more Christ-like. This process requires believers to respond to the Holy Spirit’s prompting to examine their thoughts, words and actions and compare them with the Word of God.
Ecclesiology
Ecclesiology- the church- the branch of theology that is concerned with the nature, constitution, and functions of a church
Ecumenism
Ecumenism- initiatives aimed at greater Christian unity or cooperation; It is used predominantly by and with reference to Christian denominations and Christian Churches separated by doctrine, history, and practice
Elders
Elders- refers to the office of pastor, bishop, or overseer; was in a sense the president of the congregation and was initially elected out of the congregation and given the responsibility of seeing that preaching and teaching were done;
Eschatology
Eschatology and eschatological errors- study of end times;
Evangelism
Evangelism- the spreading of the Christian gospel by preaching or personal witness; commanded in Matthew 28:19-20
Great Commission
Great Commission- found in Matthew 28:19-20; Jesus’ command to spread the gospel to the whole world
Imminent return of Christ
Imminent return of Christ- about to happen, or having the potential of happening at any time.
Justification
Justification- God’s act of declaring and accepting a person as righteous in His sight. God pardons sinners who accept Christ and treats them as not guilty – just as if they had never sinned.
Millennium
Millennium- millennial reign the thousand-year reign of Christ on earth
Ordinances of the Church
Ordinances of the Church- Baptism in water (by immersion) and Holy Communion (symbolic: bread the body of Christ, wine or grape juice the blood of Christ)
Pentecost
Pentecost- “fiftieth,” a name for the harvest feast which occurred fifty days after Passover. On the first Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus the Holy Spirit was poured out on 120 believers to empower them.
Post millennialism
Post millennialism- refers to the teaching that the millennium is the Church Age or an extension of the Church Age, with Christ ruling but not personally present.
Pre millennialism
Pre millennialism- teaches that Jesus will personally return at the end of the Church Age and will establish His kingdom on earth for a thousand years. Emphasizes the literal interpretation of the Bible
Rapture
Rapture- the snatching away of true believers for a meeting with Jesus in the air
Reconciliation
Reconciliation- the bringing of people to God in a restored fellowship.
Redemption
Redemption- refers to Christ’s paying the penalty for our sins by His death on the cross and the shedding of His blood.
Regeneration
Regeneration- the Holy Spirit’s work of giving new life to the sinner who repents and believes in Jesus.
Repentance
Repentance- Greek, metanoia, “a change of mind.” That is, a change of basic attitudes toward God and Christ that involves a turning away from sin and a seeking of God’s rule and righteousness.
Revelation of Christ
Revelation of Christ- the return of Christ in power and glory to destroy the forces of the Anti-Christ and establish the millennial kingdom
Saints
Saints- translates the Greek hagios, “a holy person.” In the New Testament all believers are saints, not because they have reached perfection but because they have turned their backs on the world to follow Jesus. They are headed in the right direction
Sanctification
Sanctification- the work of the Holy Spirit that separates believers from sin and evil and dedicates them to the worship and service of the Lord. There is an Initial act of sanctification at conversion and a continuing process of sanctification as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in putting to death wrong desires
Second death
Second death- eternal punishment in the lake of fire
Water baptism
Water baptism- The ordinance of baptism by immersion is commanded by the Scriptures. All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized. Thus they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. (Matt 28:19, Mark 16:16)
Worldliness
Worldliness - pertaining to the world in contrast to heaven. Any fascination/association that draws us away from spiritual things
