What are the three/four types of rendezvous on takeoff?
CV, running, combination or TACAN
What is a CV rendezvous and lead's typical parameter?
Joining flight in a climbing turn, 30 deg AOB (lead).
Lead may level off (as briefed - Level Rendezvous), procedures remain the same.
CV Rendezvous: wing procedures
1. Turn to intercept 30deg bearing on lead & maintain
2. Put lead on horizon
3. Use maximum 10 kts closure within 1,000ft
4. Begin join-up 3 wingspans away (150ft)
What is 30deg bearing gouge for CV Rendezvous?
Opposite wingtip & vertical stab aligned
What is max closure for CV Rendezvous?
10kts
Join-up procedures (from 3 wingspans away, inside, 30deg bearing)
1. Increase stepdown to 15 ft, maintaining bearing line until 10 ft nose-to-tail
2. Pause on lead's radius of turn (10 ft nose to tail, 15 ft stepdown)
3. Move up into parade turn-away position
What is a running rendezvous and lead's parameters?
Join-up while proceding on course (after interval takeoff, in a climb, level, or descent)
Lead: briefed course, airspeed, 92-94% pwr
What side does wing step out during running rendezvous?
13/17: Right
31/35: Left
Westside...
Wing procedure for running rendezvous
1. As soon as clean: flatten out & step out 250-300' (turn & put lead just outside HUD for 5s)
2. 2000ft -- 50 kts closure (300kts) with lead on horizon
3. 1000ft -- 25 kts closure (aircraft size of pipper...)
4. Passing canopy bow, slow to 265 (15kts closure)
5. Approaching bearing line, slow to 255-260 (5-10kts closure)
What is 'underrun' for a running rendezvous?
Idle, boards, turn away (no descent)
Section parade position
1. 30 deg bearing
2. 3ft wingtip
3. 5 feet stepdown
Section parade gouge
1. Sight down LE of lead's wing, seeing equal top&bottom portions of wing
2. Align leading corner of stab tip with exhaust nozzle
Turns into parameters / procedure
Normally 30deg AOB
Maintain position, rolling about lead's longitudinal axis
Turns away parameters / procedure
Normally 30deg AOB
VFR - rotate about own longitudinal axis
IFR - maintain position, rolling about lead's longitudinal axis
VFR turn-away reference gouge
Create triangle with leads center canopy bow, canopy rail, and leading edge of wing
Box crossunder procedure
1. Move back and down (10ft nose-to-tail, 15ft vertical separation
2. Wingdip across (front MDC on underside of lead's intakes
3. Pause on opposite side
4. Drive up and fwd into parade position
B&R Procedure
1. When lead breaks, maintain for 2 seconds, then break maintaining airspeed & 14-15 units AOA
2. Keep lead on horizon
3. Roll out 1000ft nose-to-tail
4. When lead passes outside of HUD, roll 45deg & stop on bearing line (vert stab & wingtip)
5. Close with <10kts airspeed to join-up pos (150ft away)
B&R Scan
Altitude, Bearing, Closure (airspeed)
Max airspeed differential for B&R (day/night)
Day - 10kts
Night - co-airspeed
B&R Underrun procedures
Lower-level-idle-boards, advise lead
Move to pertched pos (stepped up, 200ft)
Rejoin inside bearing when cleared.
When to underrun on B&R?
1. Uncontrolled closure rate near or in join-up phase
2. Extremely acute
What is a TACAN rendezvous?
Visual rendezvous in a circle
What are required TACAN rendezvous parameters?
1. Fix radial & DME
2. Tangent direction (normally left)
3. Airspeed & altitude
When is TACAN rendezvous used?
Departure with marginal weather, to establish visual contact in nonvisual contact situations
What are lead's procedures for TACAN rendezvous?
1. Start 30deg AOB turn at briefed fix, airspeed and altitude.
2. Call each point when passing.
What are wing's procedures for TACAN rendezvous?
1. Fly to fix with 500ft of stepdown
2. Call each point when passing
Upon seeing lead:
3. Day: call visual, intercept bearing, establish fuselage alignment, climb to altitude & proceed as in CV rendezvous

Night limits:
1. Must be established on bearing with fuselage alignment before climbing to altitude
2. AOB limited to 45 degrees
Procedure for lead change
1. Pass signal
2. Move out to 10ft wingtip clearance
3. Stepdown to 5ft below, reducing power to avoid moving farther ahead of lead
4. Move back to 30deg bearing line
5. Stabilize and move up into parade position
New lead's immediate responsibility
Fuel check once wing in parade position
