Define accommodation:

It's the ability of an eye to increase its power to form a clear retinal image of a near object.

Define amplitude of accommodation:

The maximum amount of accommodation that a subject can produce.

Define presbyopia:

A loss of the amplitude of accommodation as we age. It occurs when the amplitude is too small an amount to complete the desired task. Therefore additional positive power is required to relieve accommodation.
