What do we know about Adam and Eve?
Adam was created from the earth on Day 6.
Even was created from his side. At first, they were not immortal, and they weren't dying. |
What simple law or command did Adam and Eve have to obey?
Not to eat of one particular tree in the Garden of Eden.
Obedience or being self centred was at the heart of the test. |
What was this act of disobedience called?
"Sin" - which means to go off target, and be lawless from God's view point
(I John 3 v 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law) |
What was the penalty for mankind of choosing self first morally instead of God?
Roman 5 v 12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Romans 6 v 23 "The wages of sin is death". |
So could we just not sin, and avoid death?
Houston, we have a bias to sin, and that's a problem!
James 1 v 14-16 but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Jeremiah 17 v 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 1 John 2 v 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. |
How do you understand Genesis 3 v 15?
"And I (GOD) will put enmity between thee (SNAKE) and the WOMAN, and between thy seed (SNAKE's OFFSPRING) and her seed (WOMANS OFFSPRING) ; it shall bruise thy head (WOMAN OFFSPRING CRUSHES SERPENT THINKING), and thou shalt bruise his heel.(SNAKE OFFSPRING NON FATAL BLOW to WOMAN OFFSPRING)" |
Christ = "the seed of the woman" who will crush the thinking of snake-like people ("the head").
God then covered Adam and Eve's nakedness (shame, mortal bodies) with a covering from an animal filled with innocence (pure thinking, no sin) who died in that state of no sin - gave its life for God's purpose in covering sin. Pointed to Jesus, "the lamb slain from the foundation of the world" |
