ANOREXIA
Aloss of appetite that occurs with gastrointestinal disease. A side effect ofsome medications, can occur with pregnancy and can occur with psychologicaldisorders. Loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss can be indicative of GIcancers.
ASCITES
Freefluid it the peritoneal cavity. Abdomen appears distended, flanks bulge,umbilicus protrudes and displaced downward.
BORBORYGMUS
Acommon type of hyperactive bowel sounds caused by hyperperistalsis. Occurs whenyou feel “stomach growling
CONSTIPATION
Whena patient has 3 or fewer bowel movements per week
DIARRHEA
Watery stool accompanied by abdominal cramping.
DYSPEPSIA
Medicalterm for indigestion. Discomfort in the abdomen or chest, nausea, vomiting,bloating, belching, etc.
DYSPHAGIA
Difficultyswallowing, putting the person at risk for aspiration (choking). Occurs withdisorders of the throat or esophagus.

Hemorrhoids result from increased portal venous pressure, which canoccur with straining at stool, chronic constipation, pregnancy, chronic liverdisease, or low fibre diet

Protrusionof abdominal viscera through abnormal opening in muscle wall.

PARALYTICILEUS
Obstructionof the intestine due to paralysis of intestinal muscles.
PERITONITIS
Acute inflammation of the peritoneum

Atype of abnormal contour of the abdomen. A single, large, round curve; entireabdomen seems to protrude outward.

Ingestion of non-food, like grass, dirt, and paint chips (more common in children)

An abdomen that caves in. Can occur with dehydration or malnutrition

Hollow sounding. High amplitude, high pitch. Musical and drum-like sound.
