|
Ferdinand was assassinated due to discontent amongst the Slavic population of Bosnia and Serbia about the annexation (forcible acquisition) of Bosnia from the Ottoman Empire by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1908, an area which Serbia felt should be part of their desired pan-Slavism nation.
