General Revelation

In theology, general revelation, or natural revelation, refers to knowledge about God and spiritual matters, discovered through natural means, such as observation of nature, philosophy and reasoning.

God is infinite

"Infinite God" means the God without any limits. Infinite is being endless, vast, immeasurable, and universally omnipresent.



Rev 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was, and who is to come. The Almighty."

God is Omnipotent

God is all-powerful and able to do whatever he wills. Since his will is limited by his nature, God can do everything that is in harmony with his perfections.



Job 11:7-11 "Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea. If he comes along and confines you in prison and convenes a court, who can oppose him? Surely he recognizes deceivers; and when he sees evil, does he not take note?"

God is Transcendent

It means that God is above, other than, and distinct from all he has made.



Isaiah 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

God is Immanent

God’s immanence refers to His presence within His creation. (It is not to be confused with imminence, which refers to the timing of Jesus’ return to earth.) A belief in God’s immanence holds that God is present in all of creation, while remaining distinct from it. In other words, there is no place where God is not. His sovereign control extends everywhere simultaneously.



Jeremiah 23:23-24 "Am I only a God nearby,' declares the LORD, 'and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?' declares the LORD. 'Do I not fill heaven and earth?' declares the LORD."

God is Holy

God is separate, or cut off, from everything that is sinful and evil-He cannot tolerate sin.



Mark 1:24

God is Faithful

God is forever constant in all that He is and especially all that He says He will do.



Deuteronomy 7:9 "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,"

God is Just

The just nature of God allows him to be a righteous judge, sifting through everything that is good and evil according to his righteous standards.



Job 34:17 "Shall one who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the righteous mighty One"

God is Truthful

Anything which God says will happen shall come to pass because His perfect nature has no room for lies.



Numbers 23:19 "God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?"

God is Love

1 John 4:16 "So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

God is Gracious

To be gracious means 'to favor,' ‘to show kindnesses’ to an inferior, and ‘to be compassionate.'



Ephesians 1:7 "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.”

God is Merciful

even though He knows of our guilt, He doesn’t always issue the punishment deserved...the withholding of a just condemnation.



Matthew 18:23-27 shows that God not only shows mercy to us which is undeserved, but granted mercy on a great debt which could not be paid.

God is One

We believe in the Almighty God who does not share His glory with any other Gods.

God is One in three persons

The three persons of God are The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each are distinct from each other, yet wholly divine as one.

God's Glory

God's glory is seen heard and felt throughout His creation.

God's Plan and Human Action

The original plan was for us to live in constant communion with God the introduction of sin on the human race created separation.

Any failure to meet God's standard of holiness is sin.

Sin as transgression

Any act against the righteous decrees of God is sin

Sin as Rebellion

Open resistance to God's established authority over creation.

Sin as selfishness

Selfishness goes against God's principle of unity and is described as a work of the Flesh.

Sin as Idolatry

Placing anything before or above God in the practice of worship and obedience is idolatry and sinful.

Our own desires tempt us and give birth to sin in our lives.

God choose to wrap Himself in flesh and blood and to be born of the virgin Mary. In doing this, Jesus also became fully human.

Even though he faced every temptation common to man, Jesus did not sin and was made the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Virgin Birth

In fulfillment of OT prophecies, Jesus was born of a virgin.

Christ as Prophet

The message of a prophet is to bring divine truth and a message of redemption.

Christ as Priest

Christ presented himself as the sacrifice for our sins and now continually makes intercession for us to the Father.

Christ as King

Because all authority under heaven and Earth has been given to Him, Christ rules over all things on heaven and on Earth.

Christ's humiliation

Christ choose to humble himself by accepting a sinners punishment. He was also mocked, tortured, and ultimately killed by those whom he created.

Christ's Exaltation

Christ has been given the name above all names and at the mention of his name, every knee shall bow.

Moral Influence Theory of Atonement.

Christ's death was to show the love of God so that man would accept God's love with thorough repentance (positive moral change).



Side note: while it is trues that accepting Christ as Lord should bring moral change, this was NOT the primary reason for Christ's death.

Ransom Theory of Atonement

The price paid by the death of Christ delivered us from the wrath of God.

Governmental Theory of atonement

Christ's death only demonstrated the punishment that sinful humans deserve so that God could govern over forgiveness justly.



Side note: this theory replaces Christ, as the means of salvation, with works.

Satisfaction theory of atonement

Because Human beings are incapable of satisfying God's want of honor, He had to create a way to satisfy it Himself in Jesus Christ. The eternal satisfaction Christ provided in His obedience is enough to cover the dishonor we bring God in disobedience.

Christ as Sacrifice

The blood of Jesus shed on the cross served to pay for our sins eternally.

Christ as propitiation

The sacrifice of Christ perfectly appeased the holy wrath of God against mankind.

Christ as substitute

By paying the price of our sins, Christ literally died in place of us as he embraced the wrath of God.

Christ as Reconciliation

Now that the wrath of God has been appeased, man has an avenue to renew his relationship with God through Christ.

Deity of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is every much divine as The Father and The Son.

Personality of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is not merely some force or power but is a divine being capable of acting according to His will.

Work of the Holy Spirit in the Life of the Believer

The Holy Spirit works to regenerate the believer and bestows upon the believer the power necessary to accomplish God's will.

Election

God's sovereign action in choosing us before we were born is mysteriously involved in the moral/spiritual responsibility of every person to respond to the Gospel.

Calling

The invitation given to men by God to accept salvation in His kingdom through Jesus Christ.



We are called outwardly by preaching of the Gospel and inwardly by the Holy Spirit.

Repentance

A change of mind that results in a change of action. This is necessary for salvation because without changing ones mind about who Christ is to them, they cannot fully accept him as Lord.

Faith

A personal conviction which allows us to be sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Regeneration

the impartation of spiritual life to those who are by nature "dead in trespasses and sins."



- passing from death to life ( 1 John 3:14 )


-becoming a new creature in Christ Jesus ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 )


- being born again ( John 3:5 )


- a renewal of the mind ( Romans 12:2 )

Union with Christ

By the mysterious works of God, it has been established that Believers are now joined together with Christ and have everlasting communion with God.

Justification by Faith

The act of God not only forgiving the believer’s sins but imputing to him the righteousness of Christ.

Justification and Works

While man can do no work to make himself righteous, there still remains actions expected of all believers as the Holy Spirit spurs us to advance the Kingdom of God here on Earth.

Imputation

An act of God which ties His children to the Righteousness of Christ.

Adoption

God is a father who graciously adopts believers in Christ into his spiritual family and grants them all the privileges of heirship.

Sanctification

The constant action of God in the life of a believer by which he sets the Believer apart for righteousness.

Glorification

- the believer's sanctification or moral perfection ( 2 Thess 2:13-14)


- the body participates in glorification, which is the believer's deliverance and liberty ( Rom 8:21 ). As a result, the glorified body is immortal ( Rom 2:7 ), imperishable, powerful, and spiritual.


-glorification brings participation in the kingdom of God ( 1 Thess 2:12 ), even to the point of our reigning with Christ ( 2 Tim 2:10-12 ).


- glorification is in some sense a partaking of God's own glory ( Rom 5:2 ; 1 Thess 2:12 ; 2 Thess 2:14 ; 1 Peter 5:10 )

People of God

As believer's we moved from being lost to being claimed as the people of God, enjoying the many benefits of that title.

Jesus Christ is the "head" of the body, which is the church, while the the believers who make up the Church are the Body.

As believers, our bodies no longer belong to ourselves, but become the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit

Through Christ, we have been given direct access to God, just as a priest. God is equally accessible to all the faithful, and every Christian has equal potential to minister for God.

New identity of the believer

According to 1 Peter 2:9-10, Before Christ we were those in darkness and without mercy; not even a people. Now, we are called into His marvelous light, we have mercy, and are His people.

Bride of Christ

As it stands now, the Church is the bride of Christ. However, when Christ returns, he will joyfully take His bride to become his wife and be with Him forever.

Mission of the Church

Advance the Kingdom of God here on Earth by making and training new disciples in all which Jesus has commanded.

Discipleship

The process of teaching and training those within the faith to observe all the teachings of Jesus.

Evangelism

The action of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who are lost.

Edification

The moral and intellectual improvement of believers through inspired fellowship with each other.

Worship

The necessary devotion of ones time and energy in adoration of God.

Social concern

As imitators of Christ, it is the responsibility of all Christians to not only be aware of social concerns, but to also take part in addressing them with in our communities.

An outward expression signifying that a person has been joined with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.

Lord's Supper

An ordinance of the Faith taken in remembrance of the flesh that was broken for us and the blood that was shed on our behalf.

Life after death

Because the soul is immortal, we hold that there is life after death to be spent with God or apart from God.

Second Coming

The ultimate hope of every Christian in which Jesus will return to establish his Kingdom.
