Bacteria

The smallest organism on Earth. They are one celled organisms.

Cell Membrane

a flexible structure that holds the cell together; similar to the walls of a building

Cell Wall

Helps support and protect cells. Found in plants, algae, and fungi

Cytoplasm

the inside of a cell, filled with a gelatinlike substance

Organelle

specialized cell parts that move around the cytoplasm and perform activities that are necessary for life.

Nucleus

Contains the hereditary material, or chromosomes. Also the command center or brain of the cell

Vacuole

store wastes until the cell is ready to get rid of them. plant cells usually have a large vacuole that stores water and other substances.

Mitochondria

Cellular respiration takes place in mitochondria. Converts food into a useable form of energy that the cell can use.

Photosynthesis

a process where plants make their own food, mostly occurs in leaf cells.

Chloroplast

Green organelles in plant cells. Leaves are green because they contain so many chloroplasts

Tissue

Groups of similar cells that all do the same sort of work.

Organ

Different types of tissues working together from a structure ( organ). Organ includes muscle tissue, nerve tissue, and blood tissue.

Organ System

A group of organs that work together to do a certain job. Example the stomach, mouth, intestines, and liver are involved in the digestive system.
