Benediction
A Eucharistic devotion of Roman Rite Catholics. It consists of hymns, readings from the Bible, and the blessing of the people with the Holy Eucharist. It is a way of worshipping God and affirming our belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Eucharistic fast
Refraining from food or drink (except water and medicine) for one hour before receiving Holy Communion. (however, the sick or the elderly and those who care for them may receive the Eucharist without fasting.) We happily offer Jesus this small sacrifice as a way of showing special respect for the Holy Eucharist, our spiritual food and drink.
Host
The round wafer of bread used at Mass. At the Consecration they are changed into Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life.
monstrance
The sacred vessel in which the consecrated Host is placed for exposition or Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
