1) The AOC was America's first government system. 2) Congress had the power to declare war, appoint military officers, sign treaties, make alliances, appoint foreign ambassadors, and manage relations with Indians. 3) Under the Articles, the states, not Congress, had the power to tax. 4) Despite its weaknesses, the Confederation made some important achievements. Under the Confederation government, Americans won their independence from Britain and expanded the country's foreign trade. 5) All 13 states had to agree. 6) 9 states had to agree to change a law.

Articles of confederation

1) A period were economic activity slows and unemployment increases


2) they were going through this because southern plantains were damaged during the war, and rice exports dropped sharply, the little money that the government did have went to pay foreign debts, resulting in serious current shortage. They were also very low on money after the war had ended because the British would not help them anymore

Depression

1) Daniel Shays was the leader here


2) Massachusetts Farmers were the main people in this rebellion


3) They were rebelling because they had trouble paying the money requested by the states to meet revolutionary war debts


4)They did not like it because the judges would take their land. 5) The militia fired at them and they did not stop. the rebels were forced to shut down so they wouldn't lose their farms 6) The militia fired again killing 4 farmers. 7) They were scared and worried that the government would not stop these things to weak to protect the citizens of the U.S.

Shay's rebellion

1) Edmund Randolph was the man who wrote the Virginia plan. 2) It states that the larger the population the more representative you get. two legislative houses 3) It meant they got less representatives than the large states.

Virginia plan

1) William Paterson thought of the New Jersey Plan. 2) It means that all states would get 2 representatives but the large states did not like this they wanted 1 house legislation with equal votes among the states

New Jersey Plan

1) To discuss the trade issue. change the articles of confederation 2) When he heard of Shays's rebellion he changes his mind. 3) The 55 delegates included planters, merchants, lawyers, physicians, generals, governors, and a college president. 4) A simple majority vote of those states present would make decisions. 5) 7 out of the 13 states must attend for the meeting to happen.

Amend

1) The south had lots of slaves and wanted them to be included in the population but the north who had set them free said no so they counted as 3/5 of a person. 2) The north did not think it was right for slaves to count as people. 3) So they could have more representatives. 4) They thought it was wrong if they were a slave because they aren't citizens. They should count only to increase the amount of taxes in the south has to pay

3/5 compromise

1) The Convention appointed a committee to resolve their disagreements. Roger Sherman of Connecticut suggested what came to be known as the Great Compromise. A compromise is an agreement between two or more sides in which each side gives up some of what it wants. Sherman proposed a two-house legislature. In the lower house the House of Representatives the number of state's population. In the upper house the Senete each state would have two members. a compromise between the supporters of the Virginia plan and the New Jersey plan. 2) I think that this is fair because each state gets 2 representatives and that is good for the smaller states to, so that every state is equal in representatives

Great compromise
