homeostasis

being picky about what comes in the cell. some come in. others are kept out.

selective permeability

a protein in the membrane that helps move stuff through, particularly large stuff

transport proteins

the identification piece of the cell membrane. tells other cells not to kill the cell.

carbohydrate chains

the double layer of dancing fat, always having a party.

lipid bilayer

the movement of water (or any other substance) through a liquid or gas until it is evenly spread out with equal concentrations

diffusion

function of the cell membrane

regulates what comes in and out of a cell

how does water and oxygen get in the cell membrane

go through dancing molecules

how does sugar, proteins, and other large particles get in the cell membrane

transport proteins

what happend to the egg in syrup. why.

it shrivled up. bc the water left the cell until concentrations of the molecules were equal inside and outside the cell

- cells get smaller when water comes out

what happend to the egg in water. why.

it expanded. bc the water came into the cell until the concentrations of the molecule were equal on the inside and outside of the cell

- cells get bigger when equal concentrations or water comes in

is our blood isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic

isotonic. bc water goes in and out of the cell at the same rate

why is drinking too much water a bad idea. too little water.

drinking to much water and not using the restroom can cause your kidneys to break down and your cells can "pop". too much water is coming in and not enough water is coming out, so it's not the same rate. your solution becomes hypotonic. not drinking enough water and becoming dehydrated can cause solutions to become hypertonic.
