Turbine-driven generator (SSTG)
To safely distribute power from the output of the generators to electrical loads throughout the ship.
function of the Ship's Service 60 Hz Electrical Distribution system
To safely distribute power from the output of the generators to electrical loads throughout the ship.
Ship's service switchboards
They are the main distribution switchboards. Located in the engine room. Labeled as 1S & 2S, they house circuit breakers for the SSTG's, bus ties for the two switchboards, circuit breakers to the EDG's, and circuit breakers to all load centers.
Bus ties
Cableways that connect switchboards together. There is a bus-tie breaker installed at each end.
Load center switchboards
Provide for localized power distribution to selected areas or zones. They reduce the amount of cabling required throughout the ship and reduce the size of the main switchboards. Load centers are located at various locations.
Circuit breakers
Installed to protect cabling and equipment from power overloads and surges. When the electrical power reaches the breakers designed rating, the breaker automatically "trips" or opens to stop the supply of electricity to the circuit that it is installed in.
Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG)
Produce 450 VAC, 60 Hz, 3-phase power when either shore power or ship's power is lost
Emergency switchboards
Provide power directly to vital loads when the EDG comes online via manual automatic bus-ties (MBT-ABT) they also can supply power to the main switchboards via feedback circuit breakers. Located in spaces adjacent to EDG spaces.
Electric Plant Control Panel (EPCP)
Contains the measuring/control devices necessary to control the generators and main distribution system. Located in main control.
the purpose of the Ship's Service 400 Hz Electrical Distribution system.
To provide a special frequency power output to various electrical /electrical equipment throughout the ship such as Gyrocompass and radars.
Special Frequency Converters /Switchboards
The switchboards for controlling the SFCs are located in the FWD and AFT emergency switchboard rooms.
Distribution load centers
Located in load centers 21 and 31, they distribute 400 Hz power to the spaces/equipment that require it.
