Decimal point
Represented by "." The end of whole numbers and the beginning of decimals in a number.
Dividend
The number being divided in a division problem. For example, in 384/4 = 96, 384 is the dividend.
Divisor
The number used to divide in a division problem. For example, in 384/4 = 96, 4 is the divisor.
Magnitude estimate
A rough estimate to decide if the number is in the tens, hundreds, thousands, etc., place.
Multiples
Greater groups of a number. For example, multiples of 7 are 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, 70, and so on.
Partial quotient
A division method in which many partial quotients are decided before finding the quotient.
Quotient
The answer in a division problem. For example, in 384/4 = 96, 96 is the quotient.
Remainder
The number left after one number is divided by another number. For example, in 205/9 = 22 R 7, 7 is the remainder.
Variable
A letter or other symbol that represents a number. For example, in 874/5 = d, d is the variable.
