When should the automatic circuit reclosure be made non-automatic |
1 splicing or patching high-voltage cable 2 relocating energized high-voltage underground cable or equipment 3 Filtering or replacing oil on energized 4 operating energize low brake components working in the underground structure after a high voltage failure 5 when the supervisor deems it necessary |
|
Our pole mounted grounds allowed in the climbing space what about and rack construction? |
Yes one ground wire is permitted in the climbing space but it must be covered by an approved covering grounds are not allowed in the climbing space of rack construction |
|
What are CTs |
CTs or current transformers reduce high currents to safe levels for relay protection and metering services |
|
What are PTs |
PTs or potential transformers reduce high voltage levels to safe levels for equipment operation and metering services |
|
What steps are taken prior to performing work on pad mounted capacitors |
Capacitors shall be De-energized using the switches provided visually check the capacitor switch is open if any are closed open manually with live line tools Check for amps with Amp clamp open lock in tag the source using live line tools to test De-energized and ground after waiting a minimum of five minutes from De-energizing the capacitor terminals shall be shorted and bonded to the Case using live line tools |
|
When are no test orders required |
The purpose of no test orders is to provide a formal procedure by which a qualified person at his request will guarantee that a line or equipment will not be re-energized when the nature of the work is such that re-energizing should be hazardous to the personnel |

What is rule 209 |
Working in elevated positions Employees shall familiarize themselves with the circuits, voltages, apparatus, and unusual conditions which might present a hazard Only one employee shall ascend or decent a pole at the same time Before climbing poles ladders and scaffolding’s or other elevated structures employees shall first insure them selves that the structure or device is strong enough to safely sustain their weight Before changing strain on the pole employee shall make sure the pool can withstand the stress without falling if necessary to test the pool use rule 202 when the pole is in doubt it should be supported before work is started Employee shall check height nail or pole brand to make certain that the pool is set to proper depth 10 feet for poles below 60 feet and 13 feet on poles 65 feet and above Employees shall not transfer from aerial buckets or baskets to poles or structures unless there is a platform Climbers shall not be worn while performing work in aerial lifts The bucket or boom should not be allowed to contact unprotected energize conductors unless using approved attachments specifically designed to support energize conductors Only approved portable power saws shall be used from elevated positions on erected polls When using power tools grounding material or equipment such as wire cable or grounds the tools and all electric supply lines connected there too shall be kept at a safe distance under level of circuits are apparatus energized above 600 volts or shall be adequately guarded or secured in a way as to prevent contacting energize lines |
