Hypertension
Abnormally high arterial blood pressure
Arteriosclerosis
Thicking of walls of artery/arterioles with loss of elasticity and contractility
Atherosclerosis
A form of arteriosclerosis. Occurs in the artery not arterioles. Characterized by accumulation of intra and extra cellular lipids and cell proliferation in intima of artery. Atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of Coronary heart Disease (CHD)
Thrombosis
Formation of blood clot (thrombus) in vascular system. MI and Stroke are initiated by thrombosis.
Cornary heart disease (CDH) = Coronary artery disease (CAD)
Progressive narrowing or coronary artery due to atherosclerosis, resulting in angina and MI
Angina(pectoris)
severe pain of chest and left arm caused by insufficient blood supply to heart
Myocardial Infarction (MI) = Heart attack
Damage to cardia muscle due to occlusion of coronary artery
Ventricular Fibrillation
Unsynchronized contraction of muscle fibers of ventricle MI is the major cause of fibrillation. A defibrillaror is intended to sychronize the ventricular contration by delivering electric shock
Congestive heart failure (CHF,HF)
Decline of heat function to the point that heart can no longer maintain normal blood circulation. The major causes are CHD and hypertenstion
Stroke= cerebro-vascular disease
Impairment of brain function cause by lack of blood flow. Stroke can be caused by ischemia(low circulation) or hemorrhage. Arteriosclerosis including atherosclerosis is the major cause of stroke.
