Men, drug/alcohol user. JUST AFTER COMING OUT or STILL CLOSETED.

HIGHER RATES OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE.

What are barriers to health care for LGBT?
1) No partner visitation rights in ICU's and ER's

2) Absence of coverage for same sex

3) Bias in health insurance, care.

4) DISTRUST OF MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT. Patients do not want to risk further stigmatization.
Do lesbians have a higher risk of cervical / breast /ovarian / endometrial cancers?
YES!

1) Less time in between screening (barriers to health care)

2) Increased substance abuse (BIG)

3) FEW OR NO PREGNANCIES (longer estrogen exposure)

4) LOWER USE OF OCP's

5) Diagnosed in late stages because of long intervals between doctor visits.

Men 13-24.
What are some risks for transexual community?
Prostitution.

Use of street hormones.

Just because changed sex doesn't mean all organs have been removed. MTF can develop prostate cancer.
Is it NECESSARY to test ALL GAY MEN for HIV?
No. Ask questions about sexual behavior before you immediately proceed with a test.
Do lesbians need to worry about contraception?
YES! Still possible to exchange STD's. Some lesbians have had sex with men.
