The Smallest model of the Promina 800 Series used by the DoD.
Promina 200
The medium sized, high performance model in the Promina 800 series. More commonly used in tactical situations due to its relatively small size.
Promina 400
The largest and most capable model in the promina 800 series.
Promina 800
Software interface used to configure, monitor, and manage a Promina System. Accessed using terminal hardware or software.
Operator Interface
A point of connection on a network.
Node
A logical grouping of nodes for security, organization and management purposes.
Domain
A logical connection between two nodes, known to each other as neighbor nodes.
Link
A single physical bandwidth resource connecting two nodes and providing a path between them.
Trunk
A logical connection between two nodes that are in different domains.
Gateway Link
A mechanical assembly containing card slots and a backplane.
Shelf
The chassis of a Promina 200. Card slots are numbered 0-7
8-Slot Shelf
The chassis of a Promina 400. The card slots are numbered 0 to 11.
12-Slot Shelf
The first shelf of a Promina 800. Has 16 slots and holds SX. T3, and PPM modules.
HSS-2
One of two possible expansion chassis for the Promina 800 used to hold feature and common equipment modules. 12 usable slots.
STS
Expansion slot for Promina 800. Has 16 slots and does not contain power supplies.
EXS
An assembly containing card connectors and electrical buses which connect modules together in a shelf.
Backplane
An electrical path connecting circuit elements, modules, and other system components together within a node.
Bus
An amount of T-bus bandwidth allotted to a module installed in a shelf.
Logical Slot
A set of one or more cards that performs a single, logical function. Most modules consist of a front card and rear interface card that connect through the backplane on a shelf.
Modules
A Promina card that connects into the front side of a backplane. Performs the processing and logic functions for a module.
Front Card
A Promina card that connects into the back side of a backplane. Provides the physical and electrical interface for a module.
Rear Interface Card
Required modules that are needed for an operational node, such as processor, timing, bus, and memory modules
Common Equipment Modules
Optional modules that add capabilities to nodes and tailor nodes to meet specific requirements.
Feature Modules
A feature module used to connect two nodes and connect to a network.
Trunk Module
A feature module used to interface customer DTE equipment with a node
Data module
A physical interface between a node and customer equipment
Port
A logical port-to-port connection or circuit built between two ports by a Promina network.
Call
The version of a card
Revision Level
Backup equipment that protects against network failure. Some components of a node create single components such as processor modules, timing sources, and power supplies.
Redundant Equipment
What was the predecessor to the Promina?
IDNX
