Purple discoloration at the flanks (it indicates bleeding, possibly from trauma)
Describe Rovsing's Sign and what the positive result is:
Test client for rebound tenderness

Positive: Client feels more pain when pressure is released
Positive: Client feels more pain in the RLQ than the LLQ (referred pain)

May be a sign of appendicitis
CVA Tenderness: describe the test and what is considered abnormal:
It's often associated with renal disease

Use the heel of your fist to strike the client firmly over the CV angles (patient is sitting upright & back turned to you)

Abnormal: Actual tenderness (could be signs of kidney stones/infection)
McBurney's Point:

Describe the location and what the POSITIVE sign means:
1/3 the distance from the ASIS to the umbilicus

Positive result: deep tenderness here is a sign for acute appendicitis
Murphy's Test

Describe test and positive sign
Client breathes out and you place your hand below the costal margin (right side) at the mid-clavicular line (location of the gallbladder)

Client then breathes in and if the GB comes in contact with your hands (tender) then it is a POSITIVE sign. Positive is also no pain if test is done on the left side.
Fluid Wave Test
Client assists by placing their hands on the midline of the abdomen & you tap on one flank while feeling the other

Abnormal = if you feel the tap (it means there is fluid there (ascites)

Test is not totally reliable
Ecchymosis around the umbilicus which means there's internal bleeding is known as _______ Sign.
