What is DNA polymerase (III)?
Builds DNA by causing dnTB to do it.
What does a helicase enzyme do?
Unzips DNA by breaking hydrogen bonds.
(Occurs simultaneously at different sites) |
What is dnTP?
Deoxynucleoside triphosphate (nucleotide with three phosphate attached to it.)
What is 3' > 5'?
A leading strand.
What is 5' > 3'?
A lagging strand.
What are RNA primase?
Small nucleotide sequence that attaches to DNA. Seals the RNA primer to begin replication.
What is a Okazaki fragment?
Fills in the gaps in the lagging strand?
Are lagging strands continuous or discontinuous?
Discontinuous.
What are topoisomerase?
Messing with the histones proteins in preparation for DNA synthesis.
What is a replication fork?
A splitting pathway between two strands of DNA.
What is a replication bubble?
The gap between two strands of DNA when they split.
What are DNA ligase?
It ligates/seals the okazaki fragments in place.
What does DNA polymerase (I) do?
Removes primers from the strands.
What does it mean for DNA replication to be semi-conservative?
Only half of the DNA is replicated, so there will be a new strand and an old strand.
What are SSB?
Single stranded binding protein.
