mental health act - comm tx orders
1. intended for clients who get better on meds, leave, relapse, back in hospital 2. client can agree to CTO/form 45 (or involuntary) 3. pt must be in a psych facility 30d+ or 2x+
CTO critera
1. person needs continuing tx/care/supervision 2. person fits form 1 criteria 3. may cause harm to others/deteriorate/suffer phys impairment if they continue to live in comm w/o tx 4. person can follw tx plan 5. supports needed are available in comm
CTO too restrictive
1. meant to be least restrictive but must meet critera: danger + admissions 2. problem = can't use as alternative to 1st admit, can't shorten 1st admit 3. BC 1 admission, AB equivalencies to hospital admit 4. other countries CTO instead of involuntary hosp: scot/aus/NZ
Form 1
1. signed by MD who saw pt in last 7d 2. client must attend hospital involun for 72 hrs psych ax 3. can only be completed if client is at risk to harm self/others
Form 2
1. completed by fam, pros for JP to sign involuntary psych ax 2. useful for client with no GP or do not attend due to mental illness
Form 3
1. extend involuntary admit for psych ax past 72 hrs 2. must be diff md 3. admit is involuntary and form - 14 days
Form 4
1. end of form 3 if deemed nesc 2. aka certificate of renewal 3. 30d 1st time 4. 60d 2nd time 5. 90d subsequent
