naturally occuring or synthetic material that cannot be broken down to unique set of properties and that is generally classified as a metal, a metaloid or nonmetal.
atomic number
whole number that tells how many protons are in the nucleus of each atom of an element.
atomic mass
number that tells how heavy an element's atom are compared with atoms of other elements.
isotopes
two or more atoms of the same element that have different numbers of neutrons.
