Regression Line
A regression line is a line drawn through the points on a scatterplot to summarise the relationship between the variables being studied. When it slopes down (from top left to bottom right), this indicates a negative or inverse relationship between the variables; when it slopes up (from bottom right to top left), a positive or direct relationship is indicated. The regression line often represents the regression equation on a scatterplot.
Slope b/y Intercept
In the equation of a straight line (when the equation is written as "y = mx + b"), the slope is the number "m" that is multiplied on the x, and "b" is the y-intercept, where the line crosses the y-axis.
Least Square Regression Line
Error is defined as observed value - predicted value and we are seeking aline that minimizes the sum of these distances. Specifically, the least squares regression line of y on x is the line that makes the sum of thesquares of the vertical distances of the data points from the line as small as possible.
Residual
the difference between an observed value of the regression line =y-y*
Residual plot
Standard Deviation of Residual
A statistical term used to describe the standard deviation of points formed around a linear function, and is an estimate of the accuracy of the dependent variable being measured.
Coefficient of Determination
In statistics, the coefficient of determination, denoted R2 or r2 and pronounced R squared, is a number that indicates how well data fit a statistical model – sometimes simply a line or curve.
Influential Observation
In statistics, influential observation is an observation for a statistical calculation whose deletion from the dataset would noticeably change the result of the calculation.
