codeine (sulfate phosphate)
Mild to moderate pain. Can be used with nonnarcotic (acetaminophen), antitussive, can dec resp and cause physical dependence and constipation.
hydrocodone bitartrate (Dycodan, Vicodin with acetaminophen)
Treat moderate pain. Combined with acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen and chlorpheniramine.
oxycodone HCl with acetaminophen (Percocet) and oxycodone terephthalate with aspirin (Percodan)
For moderate to severe pain. Percocet contains acetaminophen. Percodan contains aspirin and cau cause gastric irritation so it should be taken with food or liquids.
propoxyphene HCl (Darvon)
propoxyphene napsylate (Darvon-N)
For mild pain. Darvon-compound contains aspirin and Darvocet-N contains acetaminophen. Is not a constipating drug.
alfentanil (Alfenta)
Opioid analgesic with rapid onset of action. May be give to induce anesthesia or administered by continuous infusion with nitrous oxide.
